Artspace Utica Lofts: Groundbreaking for Affordable and Sustainable Artist Housing in Downtown Revitalization Initiative

Construction has begun on the Artspace Utica Lofts, a 43-unit complex in Utica’s downtown, offering energy-efficient apartments for local artists and featuring nearly 800 square feet of gallery space. The project aligns with the city’s goal of expanding mixed-use affordable housing options as part of its $10 million New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative award. The development will be located on three vacant lots in Utica’s Arts and Cultural District, contributing to the city’s walkability and overall quality of life. The Artspace Utica Lofts will provide affordable housing for artists and eligible individuals, with a focus on cultural diversity. The all-electric building will incorporate energy-efficient systems and green infrastructure practices. The project received financing from various sources, including federal and state Low Income Housing Tax Credits, subsidies, grants, and funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. The Utica Mayor and State Senator expressed their support, highlighting the project’s significance for the local arts community and the city’s ongoing growth.
